Australian Grand Dairy Awards
->
As a consumer of milk and a person to taste fresh milk from a single cow, I appreciate the fine qualities on how one goes about assessing quality from that single sample. The Australian Grand Dairy Awards has me worried, firstly this is a self interest group, so you have bias even before you started.
"An Australian Grand Dairy Award represents quality, excellence and innovation in Australian dairy produce. The Australian Grand Dairy Awards are the ‘best of the best’. Only products that have won a gold medal in state qualifying shows are eligible to enter this prestigious national competition."
The word "quality" has been so abused of late that one must be suspicious of how businesses are using them to convince you to buy a certain product and service.
Has the average customer been conditioned to accept a predetermined, preconceived interpretation on what quality is?
Or have they accepted the fact that what they see on the shop shelf all year round is the benchmark of quality.
So here we have a vacuum of power on making a knowledgeable purchase, unless you know all the interpretations and determinations for one particular product, you cannot honestly say your making an informed decision based on quality.
Consumers are conditioned by marketing, self interest groups with the help of the media ( feeds on advertising dollars to be in business).
Quality has many levels, does dairy Australia have a top quality milk award? A superior quality award? How about the bad quality award? No It does not! If it did you the consumer would not be as "thick" as the quality cream.
So you take offence being labeled "thick", then why not go on over and request the tasting notes, guidelines of how one goes about evaluating the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.
“Why should wine-makers be the only ones to show off their successes when Dairy Farmers’ farmers work just as hard to create milk that tastes great,” said dairy farmer Gavin Moore."
Why should Australian Grand Dairy Awards be the only to have secretive milk tasting notes for the mass production of quality milk?.
I am curious to educate my visitors on how one goes about milk tasting, does one identify the herd, the region, the farmer, the transport company?
Do farmers milk one cow and bottle it?
Ah the mystery that surrounds this Dairy Awards, thickens like cream.
As for the dairy judge training accreditation I am hoping that it will be made available to the general public and we can hold our own award ceremonies in the supermarket aisles or in the cow paddocks.
