Just what we needed more coke aisles, it will be interesting to see if the same non-alcoholic suppliers will occupy the supermarket shelf space as found in Coles and Woolworths. This is a great opportunity for all the business development managers of the smaller players to get a feel of supply opportunities with Costco.
I believe all the American based beverage companies found in Australia are rubbing their hands with joy, they now have a known entity with links back home.
I believe Costco will do very well, it is going to take a decade before they really get a national footprint. The $60.00 annual membership will be worth it for me if I can find Australian owned and made products on the shelf at great bulk prices. I also predict that Australian consumers will be forced to utilise a social networking apparatus to share the costs of buying bulk. If car sharing can succeed, so can a shared bulk shopping list.
It is feasible in the future as the cost of living sky rockets due to the effects of climate change and Australia’s high unemployment rate.
